The packaging was once again sturdy and came with a lovely hand-written note from Tye, the owner of Seek Chocolate Shop. I love the personal touches she adds to the subscription boxes. Here’s what was included in the March box:
The March 2023 Dark + Milk Subscription included four unique chocolate items that were carefully selected to tantalize the taste buds. The chocolates were beautifully crafted, and each bar had a unique flavor profile that made it stand out on its own. The following are my thoughts on each of the chocolate bars.
Antidote Chocolate’s Seaweed + Toasted Black Sesame 56% Milk Chocolate Bar
The first chocolate bar that caught my attention was the Seaweed + Toasted Black Sesame 56% Milk Chocolate by Antidote Chocolate. This was a new flavor release and I felt very lucky to be one of the first people to try it. This mermaid-themed chocolate bar was visually stunning and tasted just as good as it looked. The milk chocolate had a creamy texture, and the seaweed and black sesame added a savory element and crunchy texture that complemented the sweetness of the chocolate perfectly. It had notes of raisins or prune. The chocolate itself was airy and smooth. Even my boyfriend who dislikes the taste of seaweed really enjoyed it.
20/20 Chocolates Beetroot and Lemon White Chocolate
The second chocolate bar in the box was the Beetroot and Lemon White Chocolate by 20/20 Chocolates. This chocolate bar was the winner of the Silver Award at the International Chocolate Awards ’21-’22, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The white chocolate had a smooth texture, and the beetroot and lemon added a tangy citrus twist that was both refreshing and delicious. This chocolate bar was definitely my favorite of the box.
Amano Chocolate 55% Dark Cardamom Black Pepper
The third chocolate bar was the Small Batch 55% Dark Cardamom Black Pepper by Amano Chocolate. This chocolate bar was unlike any I had ever tasted before. The dark chocolate had a rich, bold flavor that was complemented by the warmth of the cardamom and black pepper. It was definitely an adventurous choice for those who love to experiment with new flavors. It had a crunchy bit of spices in it. The resulting taste was not as expected. I thought it tasted floral and fruity, almost like blueberries, and there was none of the familiar bite I associate with black pepper.
Ritual Chocolate Fleur de sel 70% Dark Chocolate
The final chocolate bar was the fleur de sel 70% Dark Chocolate by Ritual Chocolate. This chocolate bar had a classic flavor profile, but it was executed to perfection. The intense flavor will hit you right away. The chocolate enveloped my tongue with raspberry tartness but there was also a savory element to it. The fleur de sel added a subtle saltiness that enhanced the richness of the chocolate. I found it sweeter than most 70% dark chocolate bars which I really enjoyed! The dark chocolate had a gritty texture due the fleur de sel but I think it was intentional for a textural experience.
