Tony’s Chocolonely Milk Chocolate Review

Tony's Chocolonely
Rating:
4.2/5

With its bold, colorful packaging and playful block lettering, it’s hard to ignore Tony’s Chocolonely chocolate bars in the candy aisle of the grocery store. In this review, I tried their classic milk chocolate bar with 32% cocoa percentage.

Tony's Chocolonely

About the Brand

Tony’s Chocolonely was founded in 2005 by journalists who discovered that most of the cocoa beans used to make chocolate was mostly produced by farms that practice child labor and slavery in Ghana and the Ivory Coast. The company’s mission is to make all chocolate 100% slave-free.

About the Bar

I like the brand’s simple and yet effective packaging. The bold colours and font are captivating and unique to the brand. You can identify a Tony’s Chocolonely chocolate bar very easily due to their distinctive packaging and the huge brand name in the front.

The bar was medium brown, darker than other milk chocolate bars but lighter than a dark chocolate bar. The bar was divided in abstract shapes with the Tony’s Chocolonely logo stylistically placed in the middle of it instead of in equally-sized rectangles that one expects from a chocolate bar. While interesting and artsy, this coupled with its thickness makes the bar difficult to break into even sizes for sharing.

The milk chocolate bar had an intense smell that is both floral and earthy, and a crisp high-pitched snap, indicating that the chocolate was tempered well. It was solid at room temperature and didn’t melt easily when held.

I really enjoyed the flavor of the milk chocolate bar. It was truly a great classic milk chocolate bar: creamy, smooth, and the perfect amount of sweetness. There were also hints of a floral taste that reminds me of tea. The finish was pretty clean with only a slight linger.

I was impressed by the simplicity and quality of the ingredients. All the ingredients are in compliance with Fairtrade Standards. It is without a doubt one of the highest quality milk chocolate bars you can get in the grocery store.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Tony’s Chocolonely milk chocolate bar. It is absolutely delicious, high-quality, ethical and has a great message behind it. My boyfriend who have been alongside me throughout this chocolate tasting journey loves this milk chocolate bar more than any others we’ve tried before. I’d love to try more chocolate flavors from this brand!
